Alberto Frigo: "The modern invention of a sense of mortality "

As part of the "Problèmes de la modernité" seminar, organised by Labex COMOD and IRHIM, Alberto Frigo, resident at the Collegium - Institut d'études avancées de l'Université de Lyon in the 1st half of 2024-25, will present his research: "L'invention moderne du sentiment de mortalité" (The modern invention of the feeling of mortality).
The theoretical aim of this seminar is to problematise the polemical category of 'French philosophy' on the basis of nineteenth-century philosophical debates. Particular attention will be paid to the diversity of protagonists (philosophers, publicists, doctors, historians, politicians, etc.) and media (from scholarly editions of lectures to pamphlets, contributions to journals, memoirs read in academies, etc.).
A former student of the École Normale Supérieure in Pisa, Alberto Frigo is Professor of the History of Modern Philosophy at the Università degli Studi di Milano.See the programme Labex COMOD website.
