Hosting arrangements

Each year, the Collegium de Lyon invites fifteen to twenty distinguished fellows from around the world.

A stay at the Collegium de Lyon usually lasts ten months, from September to June, or five months, from September to February or February to June. Visiting fellows are provided with an apartment in the Institute's residence on the ENS de Lyon campus. They also have a shared workspace on the first floor of the residence and direct access to the Denis Diderot Library on campus and its lending service (ILL). They are also co-hosted by a local research unit which facilitates their integration into the academic community in their specific field of research.

Residents are expected to spend approximately 90% of their stay in Lyon to ensure regular participation in the scientific life of the Institute. A weekly seminar, followed by a joint lunch, allows the fellows to present their research projects and fosters the emergence of interdisciplinary initiatives among them and with researchers from the local research units.

Accommodation

Fellows are housed in a new, welcoming residence on the Descartes campus of ENS Lyon, which is conveniently located next to several metro and tram stops. The residence has fourteen fully furnished and equipped apartments ranging from one to three bedrooms which are allocated based on the size of the family accompanying the fellow for the duration of their stay.

Financial support

Fellows at the Collegium de Lyon generally remain affiliated with their home institutions for the duration of their stay in Lyon and therefore do not have an employment contract with the Institute. Being hosted at the Collegium does not imply a subordinate relationship (of the employer-employee type) and the intellectual property of the research work remains the full property of the researchers or their home institution (depending on the terms of their contract). Depending on the funding program, researchers may receive a non-negotiable monthly stipend to cover their living expenses in Lyon, as well as funding for their local research activities and a lump sum to cover travel expenses. Fellows are responsible for their insurance and health coverage, as well as for research expenses outside the Lyon/Saint-Etienne area (e.g. fieldwork, conferences).

Administrative Support

The Collegium team is available to help researchers with various administrative formalities before and during their stay, such as:

- Information on schooling for their children (there is an international school from primary to high school, near the residence),

- Enrolling in French as a Foreign Language (FLE) courses,

- Connecting their spouse/partner to a local research unit if they are also researchers.
