SCIENTIFIC PROJECT

"Preparing leaders to exhibit exemplarity and to develop the resources needed to maintain exemplarity over time: the role of organizations and learning mechanisms"

In the current period of growing uncertainty, constant change, perception of moral drift and limited resources, organizations need their leaders to show exemplarity by aligning their words and deeds and by embodying expected behaviors. This ensures consistency between what is asked of employees and the way they are treated by management, which reinforces leaders’ credibility. Little is known about the role of organizations in preparing managers to be exemplary, about the resources needed to maintain exemplarity over time and about the learning mechanisms involved. This project will use participatory action research within three organizations in Lyon to better understand leader exemplarity from the standpoints of managers, their superiors and subordinates. This project will shed light on the best practices to be developed within organizations to help prepare managers to be exemplary, by focusing on the learning mechanisms to be put forward to achieve exemplarity.
