Aimée Boutin : Redécouvrir Louisa Siefert (1845-1877), Richesse d’une œuvre de femme à l’ère de la modernité.

Texts compiled by Aimée Boutin, Adrianna M. Paliyenko et Catherine Witt

This collection offers new insights into the life and work of Louisa Siefert (1845-1877), using an intersectional approach that combines her literary, political, and religious beliefs and unique experiences. Siefert was a remarkable writer who was well-known in her time but has since been unfairly overlooked. The book's contributions not only examine the life of the young woman, including her social, bourgeois, and provincial origins, education, Protestant faith, stoicism, republicanism, and struggles to overcome physical handicaps, but also highlight the richness of her literary work. The book showcases the plurality of voices that animate her writing and the attention that Siefert always paid to the form and genres of her writing. These pages offer an opportunity to explore several fundamental questions regarding women's work in the nineteenth century. These include the conditions that made such work possible, the intricate ways in which biographical elements are woven into her writing, the transgenerational nature of her work, and the use of intertextuality in her poetry, theatre, and novels. The idea for this book originated from the desire to explore the role of archives in studying a woman's literary work. However, it also aims to look towards the future by proposing a unique recognition of Louisa Siefert's legacy for future generations.
