As part of the international symposium ‘Orientalism through a Feminist Lens’, Edwige Crucifix, a researcher in residence at the Collegium and co-hosted by the IHRIM, will present her research: "Situating the Lesbian Orient: Sapphic relationships in the works of female travellers of the Belle Époque".

Organised by the Centre for Research on Literature and Sociopoetics (CELIS) at the University of Clermont Auvergne, this symposium aims to reassess the diverse contributions of women to Orientalism, whether in literature, the arts, travel writing, or identity construction, while avoiding essentialist feminist interpretations.

Edwige Crucifix is a lecturer and researcher at Bryn Mawr College, where she teaches in the departments of French and Francophone Studies, Comparative Literature and Middle Eastern Studies. She holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from Brown University and is currently a fellow at the Collegium de Lyon as part of the FIAS programme, funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme and the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action (MSCA COFUND, GA-101217263).
