FIAS Fellowship Programme 2026–2027

From May 30, 2025 to July 16, 2025

 

The FIAS (French Institutes for Advanced Study) Fellowship Programme, coordinated by the RFIEA network, offers 10-month research residencies (from September to June) at one of seven Institutes located in Aix-Marseille, Cergy, Orléans-Tours (Val de Loire), Lyon, Montpellier, Nantes, and Paris.

This programme is intended for high-level international researchers wishing to develop an original research project in a stimulating interdisciplinary environment within a leading French academic institution.
For the 2026–2027 academic year, three 10-month fellowships will be offered at the Collegium de Lyon.

The call is open to all disciplines within the broad field of the humanities and social sciences (HSS). Projects at the intersection of HSS and other scientific domains are also eligible.

 Conditions

FIAS fellowships offer the following conditions:
- working contract for an amount of €2 200 net/month,
- adequate social security coverage,
- fully furnished and equipped appartment on the ENS de Lyon campus,
- research and training budget equivalent to €2 500 per year,
- travel expense support package.

The Collegium de Lyon residence is located on the campus of the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon. Fellows enjoy a furnished apartment, a dedicated workspace, and privileged access to the university library. Optional French as a Foreign Language classes are available on site. The Gerland neighborhood is well connected by metro and tram, offering quick access to all Lyon university campuses.

 

Eligibility

The FIAS candidates must fulfill all the eligibility requirements to be considered:

- Degree & experience
At the time of the application deadline, researchers will have to be in possession of a doctoral degree plus 2 years of full-time research experience after the degree (PhD training period will not be considered in the calculation of experience).

- Mobility
Researchers from all countries and nationalities are eligible to the Programme. Applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in France for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the call deadline.

- Disciplines
The FIAS programme is primarily designed for researchers in the Social Sciences and the Humanities (SSH), but interdisciplinary projects connecting these fields with others are also welcome.

How to apply

The application is to be completed exclusively via the FIAS website during the application period. 
Applicants are required to submit the following documents (in English exclusively):
- the completed online application form
- a detailed curriculum vitae, including a list of publications and the contact details of three scholars familiar with your academic work
- a copy of the PhD diploma in a pdf format
- a detailed research proposal (maximum 5 pages- and a bibliography 1 additional page)
- a selection of three to five key publications (articles or book chapters)

 

Calendar :

- July 16, 2025 : Application deadline
- July 2025: eligibility check
- August - November 2025: double peer review
- December 2025: preselection by the FIAS Selection Committee 
- December 2025 - February 2026: selection of fellows by IAS Scientific Advisory Boards and communication of results
- 1 September 2026: arrival of fellows
