SCIENTIFIC PROJECT
"Large wood in rivers: from dendrochemistry to the perception of wood in rivers, via river restoration"
The aim of this year's research, in partnership with the Collegium de Lyon and H2O'Lyon, is to work on the issue of large wood in rivers. Large wood in rivers is an integral part of aquatic ecosystems and involves a wide range of disciplines. They are important for ecosystems and geomorphology, but can also be a source of natural hazards. The work carried out in Lyon's various laboratories over the past thirty years has made the city a dynamic research center for the geomorphological, fisheries, technological and social aspects of large wood in river. Over the past 15 years, complementary expertise has been developed in Quebec and Canada on the dynamics of large wood in rivers. The ten months in Lyon will enable us to continue collaborating with the UMR5600 team on issues linked to large wood budget, the perception of wood and the use of wood for river restoration. It will also enable us to start new collaborations in dendrochemistry with a team from the Ecologie des Hydrosystèmes Naturels et Anthropisés laboratory, in order to tackle the issue of pollutants in aquatic environments and the link with large wood in rivers.
