SCIENTIFIC PROJECT

"Computational membrane biochemistry and biophysics"

My group is broadly interested in the structure and function of biological membranes, with occasional excursions into other biochemical problems. We use computer simulations on powerful supercomputers to study the properties of membrane components - lipids and proteins, and interactions between them. We apply various simulation methods, including equilibrium and non-equilibrium techniques, and models at different levels of resolution. This project will enhance the capabilities of computational models to obtain a better understanding of fundamental biological processes, including the structural principles that determine the organization of cell membranes and the mechanisms of transport proteins involved in cell physiology. The project will also involve collaborations in Lyon and elsewhere in Europe to further develop simulation methods for applications in drug design and biotechnology.
