Valérie Orlando & Logan Connors: "French and Francophone Studies in the U.S. - Trends, Tensions, Future Directions"

What is the status of French & Francophone Studies (FFS) at American colleges and universities?
This seminar explores both undergraduate and graduate (postgraduate) study of FFS, with a particular focus on the evolution of the discipline and the challenges that FFS faculty and students face today.
We will focus on the history of French language and literature education in the United States, the intellectual and institutional trends and tensions that have influenced FFS, and the possible future directions of our discipline.

Valérie Orlando is Professor of French & Francophone Literatures in the Department of French & Italian at the University of Maryland, College Park and a 2019-2020 fellow of the Collegium de Lyon.
Logan Connors is Associate Professor of Modern Languages and Literatures (with tenure) at the University of Miami an a 2019-2020 fellow of the Collegium de Lyon.
