From decreed to diffused and bottom-up creativity and social innovations: The seminar will be devoted to the presentation of the first observations relating to the research project, the objective of which is to grasp and understand the emergence of creativity and social innovations focused on urban commons by identifying “places of innovation”. in the metropolitan areas of Lyon and Saint-Etienne.

The concept of "place of innovation" referring to Doreen Massey's dynamic notion of place will be presented as a tool for analyzing creativity along with informal and citizen innovations.
A reading of the innovation ecosystem will be offered, highlighting the main corridors allowing social innovations to be considered by the metropolitan administrative machinery. The question of absorption of informal social innovations by the administration of local authorities will also be addressed, in parallel with the phenomenon of institutional isomorphism of places of innovation and possible scenarios of mergers between public institutions and creative collective forces.

Robert Pyka is professor of sociology at the University of Silesia in Katowice (Poland), and the Deputy Dean for Research and Internationalisation at the Faculty of Social Sciences and a 2020-2021 fellow at the Collegium de Lyon
